Word of the Week

| | Comments (3)

First it was asking for a cheapo color inkjet printer at work after moving back to Wood Dale, land of one-color laser printers. After having access to a color laser printer for seven months, it sure is inconvenient now when designing in color. Then it was getting a free cheapo bag in celebration of diversity day at work. The black seemingly weatherproof bag sporting the company logo and event name is perhaps the perfect size to carry a newspaper in. A colleague of mine found the free gift insulting enough to boycott the event. I, however could not give up an opportunity for free food. The third time was when searching for fonts to design a logo for an upcoming conference in Las Vegas that I came across the website, cheapovegas.com. Cheapo is not a word I use very much, yet it has appeared three times already this week. I didn't think cheapo was a word either, but surprisingly a search on Merriam-Webster's online dictionary yields a result for the word with a definition meaning cheap of course.

A colleague once forwarded me a list of top ten non-words after she had come across the word "liase" in a resume and looked it up to see if such a word existed. In case you are wondering it does not. Gathering from the context of the sentence it was apparent that the job applicant meant they served as a liason in some fashion. Anyways, of the ten non-words the only one I recognized and have used several times is "ginormous." Although I have experienced "cognitive displaysia" many times but never knew there was a term for that. I find the non-word "snirt" a bit amusing and will think of it from now on during the winters when I drive in it.
