O Canada Here I Come...

The holidays came and went so quickly and now I'm trying to prepare myself for the move to Vancouver. When I got back to work last week, I discovered that I had received my work permit application package from the lawyer. After asking the lawyer for more clarification on the procedures, it looks as though it'll be fairly simple to obtain the work visa. Apparently I just sign the papers and show up in Canada to get it processed at the airport in Vancouver. Processing takes about 15 minutes but the wait could be up to two hours depending on the air traffic and number of people getting their visas.

At first I had some reservations about this process because I was afraid I'd run into some complications with getting the visa and get stuck at the Vancouver airport far from home, but the lawyer assured me that many people within the company do it this way and it is the quickest and least expensive route.

I plan on making a trip out there before I move in the next couple of weeks to meet the team and find a place to live. I'm thinking that would be a good time to process my visa as well as set up a bank account and any other paper work that might need to be completed before I start working. The plan for now is to start February 5th at my new job if all goes well.
