MichMosh #2: Celebrity Sightings, Navigating Through the Fog and Call Me
This weekend I volunteered at an Asian film festival and had the chance to view a couple films, one of which is a funny, romantic comedy called Falling for Grace that I recommend anyone to go see. I had the opportunity to speak to the filmmaker, Fay Ann Lee who not only wrote the screenplay, but also starred, produced and directed the film. She's an amazing, talented woman and it was quite inspiring to hear how she started by submitting her script to writing competitions and worked tirelessly to promote her idea and find the funding to support the making of her film - an accomplishment that took almost ten years time. The film is opening at the Vancouver box office next weekend, but has been opening already in the U.S. in various cities. Check for it in your local listings. It's definitely great to see more Asian representation in movies, which I feel is lacking in Hollywood and this film not only does that, but is funny and entertaining to watch while it addresses issues of identity and acceptance within the Asian culture and society in general.
I didn't see any big Hollywood stars, but mostly local Canadian celebrities. The funny thing is I didn't even know who they were until someone told me. Apparently Edward James Olmos was at the festival, but I missed him like I usually do with any famous celebrity, like Tom Petty and Jon Bon Jovi in Nashville.
Today I drove back home through the fog and it was quite thick in certain areas. I'm a little afraid of driving in the fog because I think of those awful pileups because of it. Also it's kind of spooky in the way that it makes me feel as though I'm dead. If you remember the movie, The Others about a family who lives in a big house in the middle of the woods surrounded in perpetual fog then you know what I mean.
If you haven't noticed, there's now a green button in the lower right column of this blog that allows you to call me very easily just by clicking it. The button is from Jajah, a VOIP service that I've been using since I've moved to Canada and saves me a bundle on international calls.
