What comes to mind when you think of Washington D.C.? Some people may think of the White House, the Capitol, the national monuments, or even the Netflix show, House of Cards (which actually is filmed in Baltimore.) My first impression of the U.S. capital was something I didn’t expect—broccoli. Yes, broccoli. Once the plane descended below the cloud cover, I could see the densely packed, bushy tops of trees covering most of the ground. Unlike the clustered buildings of Chicago and New York, D.C. appears to be covered in broccoli. I wish I had taken a picture so I can share it with you all, but this image of broccoli will do just the same.

I have more photos from my trip to D.C., which I’ll be sharing along with my experiences and observations in the following posts. It was my first time to D.C., and I had joined my sister last minute on her East Coast tour, so I did no planning beforehand. But, we covered a lot of ground for the five days we were in the city.
On our first day in D.C., we walked the length of the National Mall to the Washington Monument and past that to the Lincoln Memorial. Our feet were sore, but that didn’t stop us. The photo of the Washington Monument above was taken from the World War II Memorial during our long walk.
