Down by the Train Tracks

My friend had done some research via Google maps to find good locations for spotting eagles. This was one of the spots we found below the train tracks. There were no eagles, but there was some scenic views and oddly a river boat that gave tours in what seemed like a pretty secluded area.

Trump Tower in Chicago

Trump Tower

These photos were taken from inside the Art Institute of Chicago. I think I’m going to do a series of in and out of focus photos and put them together. It can be a fun little series of diptychs.

Colored Bins

colored bins

These bins were sighted at the salmon hatchery. Not sure what they’re for, hauling fish? salmon eggs? Who knows… but they make for a nice photo.

Jana's Boots

As a team activity, we decided to drive an hour and a half east from Vancouver to Harrison Mills to catch the Salmon migration and the bald eagles nearby. Although it was sunny, it was quite nippy out. Those of us who brought our cameras were shooting away mostly at the trees and water. I happened to catch Jana’s trendy boots and had to take a photo.

Light Panels

Illuminate Yaletown

Also taken at the Yaletown Illuminate event, these light panels would change color continuously and animate in different patterns.

Animated Light Projection

Illuminate Yaletown

This photo was taken at Yaletown Illuminate — an event that showcased light installations and projections by artists in Vancouver. I enjoyed watching this animated light projection which seemed to tell a story of factory workers manufacturing designer doggy bags for women who liked the finer things in life.

Blue bike and orange wall

We were heading to the car ready to leave Granville Island when I spotted this bike in the corner of my eye. I turned around and had to grab a shot. It was too perfect—the light, the shadows and the blue against the orange wall.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

I arrived here 30 minutes before it was scheduled to close and the light was falling fast. I’d been here many times before, but this was the first time I took a photo of the bridge I liked. The light at dusk creates a more dramatic scene giving the trees more depth and dimension. I like how they seem to swallow the bridge.

Chinese New Year Outfits

A Chinese New Year celebration at the International Village in Vancouver’s chinatown took place over the weekend. Dance performances along with booths selling all sorts of knick knacks and toys were at the event. It seemed that everyone wanted to get a Chinese New Year’s outfit to celebrate the occasion.

Vancouver Street Party

While in downtown I noticed a street being blocked off and thought they were filming something, which is quite common here in Vancouver. But to my surprise it was a carnival type celebration with music, drums and dancers in full costume. I followed the parade a couple blocks taking pictures of the street party as people gathered around to do the same. It was nice to see the colorful costumes and witness the festive event. See more photos in my Flickr set — Sights in Vancouver.
